On September 10, 2026, Consensys completed its split: the existing entity rebranded as MetaMask, while a newly formed Consensys holds the institutional infrastructure business including Linea, Besu and Teku, with Joe Lubin leading both companies. On the same day, roughly 960 million LINEA (about 3% of circulating supply) were unlocked, all routed to the Linea Consortium's Ignition and long-term alignment programs, with none going to public holders.

After Small Fields, Linea's focus is to keep pushing proving costs down and to decentralize the prover role: field extension moves from quartic to sextic, 31-bit arithmetic with AVX-512 lowers the hardware bar to consumer CPUs, and zkASM lets the same implementation prove for any prime field. Remaining roadmap items include multiple proving systems and decentralized block building; on the revenue side it relies on native yield on ETH deposits and Lido's L2 direct staking, with a shortened withdrawal window used to court institutional settlement use cases.
