Newton is a licensed crypto exchange and broker in Toronto, operated by Newton Crypto Ltd., founded in 2018 and serving only Canadian residents. It charges no trading commission and embeds cost in the buy-sell spread: roughly 1.00%–1.15% on BTC, ETH, and USDC and about 1.25%–1.60% on other assets, with lower rates for high-volume Signature clients. CAD funding through Interac e-Transfer, wire, and EFT is free, the platform lists 59 CAD pairs plus an ETH/BTC swap, and staking on ETH, SOL, and ADA pays roughly 1.5%–4.5%.
On the regulatory side, the platform holds a FINTRAC MSB registration (M19607029) and was admitted to CIRO as an investment dealer on March 18, 2026, with time-limited regulatory relief covering crypto contract distribution and the operation of a platform that includes staking; on July 30, 2026, the FINTRAC registration of affiliated entity Newton OTC Inc. was terminated, leaving the retail platform unaffected. On custody, the company states that over 80% of assets are held offline, using Fireblocks internally and Coinbase Custody and BitGo externally, with cash covered by CIPF while crypto assets are not.
On March 18, 2026 Newton became a CIRO investment dealer member, adding a formal status in Canada's investment regulatory framework to its existing FINTRAC MSB registration, with client cash now covered by CIPF; it had previously held only an Ontario Securities Commission restricted dealer authorization.
After membership, Newton moved staking, CAD funding and order types into a single regulated account framework and rebuilt compliance disclosure, client asset segregation and complaint handling to CIRO rules; no new user or asset figures were disclosed.
Next Newton plans to expand custody and staking products for advisors and institutions inside the CIRO framework, keep CAD fiat rails as the core channel, and has announced no new chains, token issuance or US expansion.

Newton tiers its trading fees by asset: Tier 1 (BTC, ETH, USDC) at 1.00% to 1.15%, Tier 2 (LTC, SOL, XLM) at 1.25% to 1.45%, and Tier 3 (all other assets) at 1.50% to 1.60%.
Newton's Signature program tiers fees by 365-day trading volume: Gold at 100,000 CAD pays 1%, Platinum at 1 million CAD pays 0.85%, Diamond at 2 million CAD pays 0.5%, and Onyx at 5 million CAD pays 0.05%.
Newton Crypto Ltd. obtained Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO) investment dealer registration and is listed on the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) crypto asset trading platform register， offering crypto trading services.
