Bitlayerについて
Bitlayer is a Layer 2 built on Bitcoin with the aim of bringing bitcoin assets into a programmable environment. Bridging follows the BitVM model, constructing challenge-and-response games in Bitcoin Script so that state transitions on the sidechain can be disputed and penalised by parties on Bitcoin, gaining near-native security without changing Bitcoin's consensus; execution is EVM-compatible, contracts are committed in Rollup-style batches, and assets move both ways between the bridge contracts and the chain.
In the ecosystem it acts as an entry point for Bitcoin DeFi, serving holders who want to use BTC in lending, stablecoins and derivatives, and applications that need bitcoin liquidity. Unlike sidechain designs its security is anchored in Bitcoin Script rather than an independent validator set, and unlike state channels it supports general contracts. On 27 May 2026 the BitVM bridge was announced for shutdown, deposits closed on 28 May and withdrawals ended on 3 June, with value locked falling from a peak above USD 400 million to about USD 450,000.

In 2026 Bitlayer accelerated on both technology and markets. BTR hit an all-time high of USD 0.236 on 15 February with peak 24-hour volume above USD 78 million. The phase 2 airdrop opened on 28 February, unlocking 10 per cent of total allocations for Racer Center, Gems, points and ecosystem campaigns. YBTC.B was deployed to Plasma through the BitVM bridge on 25 February and kept providing liquidity on Sui through Turbos Finance and Folks Finance, with the YBTC family at about USD 93.75 million in TVL.
On architecture, the team announced on 27 May that the existing BitVM bridge would be retired during a full redesign, with inbound transfers disabled from 28 May and normal outbound transfers ending on 3 June. BitVM2 was accepted into USENIX Security in 2026, while V2, which would settle state transitions on Bitcoin via BitVM2, remains in development rather than in production; BTR staking is also being prepared.
Future strategy and roadmap: After retiring the old BitVM bridge, Bitlayer will launch Rollup V2 in Q4 2026 targeting about 0.5-second finality and sub-0.01-dollar fees, replacing the current architecture with a production rollup using BitVM2 state-transition settlement. It continues expanding BTCFi via YBTC cross-chain liquidity to Sui, Solana, Base and Plasma, providing liquidity on Turbos Finance and Folks Finance. BTR staking is in preparation, intending to use staking and governance utility to capture the long-term Bitcoin L2 penetration narrative.
