Filecoinについて
Filecoin is a decentralized storage network built by Protocol Labs and launched in 2020 as its own Layer1, serving developers and institutions that need long-term archival and verifiable data. It tackles the centralized-cloud problem that storage cannot be independently verified and that capacity often outruns real demand, using Proof of Replication and Proof of Spacetime to turn disk space into a verifiable commodity and block rewards to incentivize storage providers. The network supports warm-data verification through the programmable FVM layer and Proof of Data Possession, settling in the USDFC stablecoin to shift economics from paying for capacity to paying for useful data.
In October 2026 the six-year vesting schedules of Protocol Labs and the Filecoin Foundation ended, cutting daily new FIL entering circulation by roughly 75%. Filecoin competes with centralized clouds on roughly 1.95 EiB of capacity, but whether utilization and paying demand can absorb the withdrawal of subsidies is its core test against incumbents like AWS.

In early September 2026 FIP-0118, known as Solstice, was accepted and activated with the nv29 mainnet upgrade at about 12:59 UTC on October 19 (epoch 6470279): Filecoin Plus and DataCap are retired, every new sector automatically receives a 10x quality-adjusted power multiplier, and block rewards split into consensus, service and burn streams, with the service share starting at 5%, rising to 10% in the bootstrap quarter and gaining 5 percentage points each time a quarterly Filecoin Pay volume gate is cleared, the first set at $3,500, while unallocated portions are burned.
The consensus share slides from 95% to a 50% floor over roughly nine quarters, and the six-year vesting of Protocol Labs and Filecoin Foundation allocations ended around October 15, removing about 66.7 million FIL a year; together the two changes cut daily issuance by roughly 75%. On the ecosystem side Aurora is deploying Filecoin storage across 100 MW AI data centres in Europe, and 375ai and Akave use it as the durability layer for verifiable AI data pipelines, with the network once adding more than 59 PiB of raw storage in a day.
Future strategy and roadmap: The service share advances along a ladder of settled volume on Filecoin Pay. The orchestrator registry starts permissioned, with one orchestrator and four multisigs, and is designed to open over time; the first gate check lands around the end of April 2027, and the top rung requires roughly $3.66M of quarterly settled volume before the full 50% share is earned. On the demand side, Fil One sells S3-compatible object storage into U.S. and EU regions and positions a storage-for-neocloud offering next to GPU compute, alongside Integral Spacetime's acquisition-led onboarding.
