Harmonyについて
Harmony is a sharded Layer 1 that splits state and transactions across shard chains for parallel processing, with the beacon chain picking validators through FBFT consensus weighted by stake and cross-shard transactions carried by receipts. Single-chain throughput is a shared constraint for all L1s, and sharding tries to scale horizontally by spreading load across independent shard committees, with capacity rising in theory with the number of shards. Receipts are verified at the destination shard before write-back, asset transfers rely on the Horizon bridge, and ONE pays both gas and staking; sharding also spreads the attack surface across receipt verification and the bridge, where one failure can reach the whole chain's assets.
In August 2026 a cross-shard receipt flaw minted billions of ONE without authorization, and the team then proposed closing the mainnet, letting validators stop producing blocks from 10 September and mapping ONE to the same addresses on Ethereum from a final-block snapshot. The complexity of sharding ended as a liability rather than a moat, since a single point of failure in receipt verification or the bridge can end the chain.

Network shutdown: In September Harmony proposed closing its mainnet and migrating ONE to Ethereum, letting validators stop producing blocks from September 10 and urging users to exit smart contracts beforehand; an August cross-shard receipt vulnerability that minted billions of unauthorized ONE was the immediate trigger.
Token and pivot: A snapshot at the final block will airdrop tokens to the same addresses on Ethereum, with total supply and emission rate unchanged while new issuance funds an AI video remix business; a $1.372 million validator compensation pool pays out over four quarters, and ONE rose about 181% in the week after the announcement.
Harmony launched in June 2019 as a sharded Layer 1, marketed on effective proof of stake, two-second blocks and fee burn offsetting issuance, with an ecosystem that once spanned a Uniswap v3 fork, the LayerZero bridge and Compound-style lending markets. In 2026 it abandoned its own chain: a September proposal called for sunsetting the Harmony mainnet, migrating ONE to an ERC-20 token on Ethereum and pivoting to an AI video remix economy.
On execution, KuCoin completed the 1:1 migration on 14 October, enabling deposits and withdrawals for the Ethereum version while ending support for the original mainnet token, with the new contract at 0xff74317e948695297acb79cb2de06111f5cc16b3. The block explorer at explorer.harmony.one shuts down on 18 November, and users must export any pre-2025 history before then. Binance is also suspending trading for Brazilian users in ONE and 21 other tokens from 27 October as part of a compliance restructuring. Recent price strength has been attributed to speculation around the migration and AI narrative rather than improving fundamentals.
Future strategy and roadmap: Harmony's future is narrative rather than technical. Having become an ERC-20 on Ethereum, it must find real demand for ONE inside an AI video remix economy, or the migration simply swaps a stalled chain for a token without a use case. The risks are concentrated: abandoning the mainnet means independent validator and infrastructure costs were no longer sustainable, a mint episode diluted supply, and the execution complexity of the migration compounds reputational damage from past exploits, making this a high-risk restart rather than an upgrade.
