Midnightについて
Midnight is a privacy blockchain developed by Shielded Technologies, a spin-out of Input Output, positioned as a Cardano partner chain rather than a sidechain with its own ledger, consensus and contract environment. The design is dual-ledger: a public ledger handles coordination and visible state, a shielded ledger holds encrypted state, and zk-SNARK proofs bridge the two so an application can disclose that a condition holds without exposing the record behind it. Contracts are written in Compact, a TypeScript-like language that compiles to ZK circuits, with proofs generated locally on the user's device. Fees are not paid from a public balance but from DUST, generated by holding NIGHT, non-transferable and regenerating in proportion to holdings, so paying does not reveal the payer.
In the ecosystem Midnight targets identity, healthcare and regulated finance, where verification and confidentiality are both required, serving regulated institutions and the enterprises building selective-disclosure applications on it. Mainnet produced its genesis block on 30 March 2026 with nine institutions producing blocks in a federated set, while NIGHT, a Cardano native asset, carries governance and staking and DUST meters compute.

Japan listings: NIGHT began trading on Sony-backed S.BLOX on August 24, the first Japanese exchange to support it, with a purchase rebate campaign running to September 30; on October 13 OKJ opened spot, accumulation and withdrawals, becoming Japan's first venue to offer NIGHT order-book trading. The price fell 4.79% to about $0.0195 within two hours of the S.BLOX listing.
Unlock mechanics: The Glacier Drop registered over 4.5 billion claims across 8 million addresses, thawing in four equal 90-day tranches over 450 days; the token is down about 60% from its December 2025 debut.
On 30 March 2026 Midnight produced its genesis block, launching the Kūkolu mainnet with a federated set of nine node operators including Google Cloud, MoneyGram, Worldpay, Bullish, eToro and Blockdaemon. Binance opened NIGHT spot trading the same day. NIGHT has a fixed 24 billion supply and continuously generates DUST, a non-transferable and regenerating resource that pays fees, with fee mechanics phased in during the year. NIGHT already circulated as a Cardano native asset at launch, creating a dual-chain structure with protocol-level rules against value duplication.
Midnight's interoperability and ecosystem work advanced together. USDCx, a 1:1 mirror of Circle's USDC, went live on Cardano mainnet at the end of February, and a LayerZero integration connected the Cardano side to more than 160 chains and over $80 billion in omnichain assets. On 9 February the foundation and HackQuest hosted Privacy, Pitched, where nine teams demonstrated selective disclosure with zero-knowledge proofs, and institutions such as Monument Bank announced plans to build compliant applications.
Midnight's Future strategy and roadmap: the Mohalu phase will hand block production to Cardano stake pool operators with NIGHT rewards before moving to community validators, while the team matures the Compact toolchain and the DUST fee market to bring programmable compliance to institutional use.
